I understand the larger point about Trump appealing to emotion and not facts — that’s part of the plan with his propaganda of course.

But I don’t buy this idea that the world is only divided by income. It sounds like the argument of his book is boiled down to class reductionism.

There are many facts he seems to ignore to get people to see his perspective. And I understand we all tend to extrapolate based on the information we have that often falls short of the bigger picture. But class reductionist based arguments ALSO fall short of the bigger picture. This is why white dudes like this guy shouldn’t be the purveyors of telling us how things really are. For instance, in his own country, Sweden, white nationalists/fascists/Nazis are still a problem. One only need to look at how his fellow Swede PewDiePie uses anti-semitic imagery as “jokes” in his videos, drops the n word, and then later apologizes over and over again. It’s a pattern, and a lot of white supremacists are in his fan base. Another example are the news stories of rich black people still getting arrested and harassed by cops here in the US because of their skin color. There are certainly other divisions that affect power dynamics in the world.

What makes the world in such bad shape are people like Putin and Trump becoming leaders and having the power they do. The Republicans cheating at elections and increasing voter suppression tactics gives power and voice to fewer people.

He misrepresents the issues that we’re faced with today with ones we were faced with 30–50 years ago. We may be getting better with education, global health, and extreme poverty — but it’s climate change and fascism popping up in several countries again that is our current challenges we must overcome. Just because the world has improved in areas the UN has focused on in the past few decades, doesn’t mean there aren’t other issues that equally threaten how good things in the world are or can be.

I took the quiz out of curiosity and scored 7/13.
